Dr. Shimon Eckhouse is an inventor and active entrepreneur in the field of medical devices and medical technology. Dr. Eckhouse is currently the chairman of Syneron Medical Ltd. (Nasdaq ELOS) which he co-founded in 2001 and took public on Nasdaq in 2004 and through a secondary offering in Nasdaq in 2005. Syneron reached a valuation of more than $1B and returned to its investors more than X50 on their investment.
He is also the chairman and co-founder of CardioDex Ltd., NanoCyte Ltd., Navotek Ltd., Tulip Ltd. and the Chairman of Orsense Ltd. Dr. Eckhouse was a co-founder of ColorChip and has served as its chairman from 2003 and as its CEO from 2001 to 2003. Dr. Eckhouse is a co-founder of Ventor Medical Technologies Ltd. and served as its Chairman until it was acquired by Medtronic in February 2009 for $325M in cash.
Dr. Eckhouse was the founder, chairman and CEO of ESC Medical Systems from its inception in 1992 until 1999. He took the company public on Nasdaq in January of 1996 and raised more than $250M in 3 public offerings. The company reached a valuation of more than $1B returning to its investors more than X50 on their original investment in the company. In ESC Dr. Eckhouse invented IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology which is now used extensively for non-invasive aesthetic medical applications.
Prior to founding ESC Medical Systems, Dr. Eckhouse was head of product development and technical director at Maxwell Technologies in San Diego, CA. Dr. Eckhouse also previously worked at Rafael, Armament Development Authority of Israel as a scientist, team leader and head of department and was active in various areas of R&D including lasers and electro-optics.
Dr. Eckhouse holds a B.Sc. in physics from the Technion Israeli Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in physics from the University of California at Irvine. He has more than 100 registered patents and published more than 50 papers in leading refereed journals and conferences. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Technion Israeli Institute of Technology.
